Albert & Holmes enjoys the reputation as the West Coast’s most well-known and distinguished full service Decorative Art, Design and Fine Arts Studio. We are a team of artists led by Mark Holmes and Lisa Albert, with our studio based in La Jolla, California since 1991. Mark and Lisa had their own respective businesses, until joining forces in 1990, and moving to La Jolla.
Honored as 10 Stars of San Diego, Lisa and Mark are continually reinventing the definition of interior decorative art, by creating new techniques and studying and perfecting techniques centuries-old, while in many other cases, adapting European-inspired design for a modern environment.
Working intimately with Interior Designers and Architects to bring together the elements of design, color, and architecture, in an interior environment, Albert & Holmes brings to their very discerning clientele the highest quality of expert Decorative Interior Art, Fine Art, and Color Consultation services. With a combined expertise of nearly a century in the decorative arts, Albert & Holmes brings to the industry a professional and passionate understanding of European decorative art and techniques, and prides itself on its unwavering commitment to a timeless craft.
Albert & Holmes is called upon for every aspect of Interior Art, from the simplest wall glazing, to sophisticated painted rinceaux patterns, and trompe l’oeil murals. They have been commissioned for many custom designs, some of which have been shipped to Italy to be transformed into large-scale mosaic murals. Many projects are produced in the La Jolla studios, on canvas, and shipped and installed, by the Albert & Holmes crew, on-site.
Albert & Holmes is well known in the design and art community, having worked with many major Interior Design and Architectural firms from around the country, and their award-winning work has been published in many local, national, and international publications. Their crew of artists, comfortable working in any style, have training from some of the most well respected art schools from around the country and the world.
Albert & Holmes’ lead artist, Joshua Benz, a master craftsman and accomplished artist, has been an integral part of the design team for over 20 years. As project leader, he is as adept at building relationships with the clients with whom he interacts, as he is with his command of knowledge and expertise in the field of decorative art. He brings to Albert & Holmes, a level of professionalism, commitment, and expertise, unparalleled in the industry.
PRINCIPALS
Mark Holmes
The proud father of two girls with his wife and partner, Lisa Albert, Mark brings to Albert & Holmes 30 years of experience in business and business management, and a breadth of knowledge in the decorative arts. Having tutored under an Italian master in European painting techniques, as well as serving as an Art Director for scenic painting companies for theatrical productions on Broadway and the motion picture industry, Mark is a California plein air painter, whose collectors are among the company’s many clients. As comfortable traveling abroad with clients for research for a project, as he is painting in the backcountry of the Sierras, he is committed to bringing the same energy of living life to its fullest, as he is to fulfilling the aesthetic aspirations of Albert & Holmes’ many clients.
Mark’s philosophy of dedication is embodied in his commitment to professionalism, in preparation and execution, on the projects Albert & Holmes embarks upon.
Mark is a member of the California Art Club, American Impressionist Society, San Diego Art Institute, Laguna Plein Air Painters, and Oil Painters of America.
Lisa Albert
With a French heritage, having a Mother and Grandmother, both Parisian, and both artists in their own right, Lisa combines her upbringing, with her background and extensive studies in Art, Architecture, and Art History, to bring to Albert & Holmes a unique understanding of the world of interiors and Interior Art.
She embodies a sense of aesthetic that is nationally recognized and sought after, for colour consultation, furniture design, and custom modern and traditional European ornamentation. Lisa is also called upon by leading Interior Designers and Architects for inspiration in incorporating Interior Art into the modern home. She brings an aesthetic sense that is authentic, inspired, and passionate.
With a degree in Art History, and undergraduate studies in Architecture, Lisa brings to Albert & Holmes a unique artistic perspective that instills confidence in her clients, and enables her to bring masterful design and a sense of authenticity to every project.
Her work has been featured in Veranda, Inspirations from France and Italy, and Traditional Home.
